Peoples of the South

Peoples of the South sample spread

Our fascination with different cultures led to this book and our images showcase the vibrant customs and traditions of the main indigenous peoples of South Africa. The text is written by Sue Derwent and is lively and informative. She gives a broad overview of the history, migration and settlement patterns of each group as well as touching on the ancient civilizations that thrived at Mapungubwe on the banks of the Limpopo River and at Thulamela in the north of the Kruger National Park.

The Bushmen, Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho, Ndebele, Shangaan, Tsonga, Swazi and Venda cultures are all highlighted, with interesting information on their home-life, homesteads, crafts, ceremonies and spiritual and religious beliefs.
