Wild Dog Vocalizations

We were very surprised at the sounds that Wild Dogs make. Seeing that they don't look and behave all that differently to your average pooch one would perhaps expect the average woof, woof. No, it seems...

The most often heard vocalization  is what we call a rallying call. It's a high pitched twittering used before the hunt and when they greet each other, especially when there are pups about. It's the most un-doglike sound that one could imagine. Listen here: Wild Dog Rally Call.

Wild Dogs are social animals and when they get separated from the pack it seems to be of huge concern. They have a very plaintiff "help where is everyone" whooping call (sometimes called a "hoo call") that they use on these occasions. Listen here: Wild Dog Who Call.

They also make a short, gruff warning growl when they perceive danger and want to warn other members of the pack. Alas we don't have recording of this sound but as soon as we do we'll post it here.
